If so, you are probably doing this by using an affiliate program, as they are mostly free and widely used. After all, if it is free, and all you have to do is promote it with the tools they give you, what have you got to lose?
Well, nothing really, if you know what you are doing. However, there are many, many newbie affiliate marketers who don’t know the ins and outs of this business. First of all, they don’t know that getting the right traffic to your site can be very slow going if you don’t know the secrets to getting this done.
Now, picture this: You spend lots of your time and advertising money to promote your affiliate site. After a few months, you finally get your first sale. You are a bit discouraged, as it took you this long, but you made $10 with this sale and are excited to make more. However, this affiliate program you are with only pays out when your amount due to you reaches $30. What a disappointment.
Well, if you are in this situation, the key is not to quit, because there are some secrets to this business that you are about to uncover.
First of all, never advertise your affiliate program directly. If you do, you will not receive the sales or the traffic you desire.
People like free things, right? So, offer free product. What kind of product are people looking for? Information is key. People know that information and resources is valuable to them. You can give away free reports, ebooks, etc. Now, the key to this, however, is not to give this information away until you have the person’s contact information. This would be their email address, as this is an online business.
Now, once this information is given out, you want to keep following up with this person with more information that is derived from the previous information given. This again must be something of value to them. It needs to be relevant to what they are looking for.
After you have done this, and built a good reputation, and business relationship with, it is time to show them what works for you. The product or service that you are promoting hasn’t been revealed to them until now. All of the information provided to them previously is information that is relevant to what the product can do for them, but the product itself is never actually mentioned. You let your affiliate site do the selling for you. You want to keep their interest and get them thinking how they want to know more.
One way to talk about the product is to personalize it and tell them how it has helped you. People want someone who is genuine to sell them something. This builds their trust with you and leads them on to making a purchase.
