A lot of people have a phobia in writing articles. They automatically think that it entails a lot of work – thinking, finding the right words, not to mention a coherent organization of thoughts aside from the actual act of putting all the words on paper.
Before starting off to write, there is one rule that must be adhered to at all times and that is you should write to inform. Getting the information across to the reader in simple words and expressing your feelings through the written word are the secrets behind a successful writer. If what you write is not read, then you have wasted the time and effort put into producing whatever it is that you wrote.
To succeed at writing, take not of the following red hot tips to ensure that your articles are read by anyone who would see them – regardless if it is unintentional or on purpose.
- Keep it short and simple by using short paragraphs. Long paragraphs (six sentences or more) tend to make the reader skip to the next one thereby not getting the message that you want to deliver. Keep your reader’s interest by keeping your paragraphs short and simple. Make sure that your paragraphs are not more than four sentences, five at the most!
- Whenever possible, use numbered lists or bullet points to emphasize your message. Using these word processing styles make important topics easier to remember and breaks up the sea of text in any type of articles. Aside from breaking up the monotony of a page, bullets add flair to a document or an article.
- If the topic you are writing on requires the use of compound sentences, use sub- headings instead. This way, you can break up paragraphs into more readable and easier to understand passages that makes it easier for the reader to understand the message you are trying to express. In this manner, there is no chance that your readers will lose their concentration as well as the point and direction you are trying to drive at with the article.
- Make sure that the title you use is at the same time attention grabbing and very interesting. Let’s face it, people would only ready an article if the title itself already makes them curious as to make them glance at the first paragraph. Having an attention-getting title ensures you that the prospective reader will at least read the first paragraph. It’s now up to you to exploit that opportunity to make him finish reading the whole article!
- Keep your audience interested from the start to the finish. From the title to the first paragraph and all throughout the article, you should strive to keep your reader’s interest focused on the the whole article. Use simple words, easy to understand figures of speech, easily recognizable metaphors and similes in order to drive home your message and keep your reader’s eyes rooted to the page. Use humor if you have to. There’s nothing better than an article that can draw out emotions from the reader!
- Keep your facts straight when using statistics and graphical representations of your data. Doing so not only breaks up the monotony of the page but also makes it easier for the reader to digest the contents of the full article.
